Paul Chiou is a Ph.D. student at USC. His research interests include using software testing to tackle under-addressed accessibility problems in software engineering. He proposed program analysis techniques to automatically detect and repair accessibility violations in web and Android applications. Paul’s dissertation focuses on detecting and analyzing keyboard accessibility issues that could hinder keyboard users’ ability to use the web effectively. As a beneficiary of assistive technologies, Paul is an advocate for disability research and believes that accessible technology can improve the quality of life as well as create an equal opportunity for people with disabilities. Paul’s vision is to improve software accessibility and quality assurance to create a web and mobile environment that is more accessible for all users. In his free time, Paul enjoys playing a computer game called Dota2, where he is constantly designing and improving on prototypes of adaptive switch controls to improve his gameplay to compete with abled-bodied players.
