Dr. María-Victoria Díaz, a hard-of-hearing electrical engineer, has dedicated her research and development efforts to advancing Communication, Information, and Technology to meet the needs of people with sensory disabilities. Over the past eight years, she has represented the needs of the Latino community on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s Disability Advisory Committee (DAC), providing expert advice on communication access issues for individuals with disabilities.

Since 2005, Dr. Díaz has led numerous accessibility research and development projects as Principal Investigator, working through Television Access and Field Development initiatives funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health. She represents the Hispanic community on various Advisory Boards, including the Dicapta Foundation, the National Center on Deafblindness (NCDB), the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) under the U.S. National Association for the Deaf, and the Florida and Virgin Islands (FAVI) Deaf-Blind Collaborative. Additionally, she proudly contributes to Teach Access, supporting efforts to promote accessibility awareness among the next generation.


A pioneer of audio description and captioning services in Latin America, Dr. Díaz has received multiple awards for her groundbreaking work. These include the 2009 Audio Description Project Award for Achievement in Audio Description – Media, presented by The American Council for the Blind and The Audio Description Project, and the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Award for innovation and community service in the United States, Washington D.C., in 2009. She was also recognized as one of the top 10 remarkable leaders in media with The John C. Maxwell Leadership Award in 2014. Most recently, she was nominated for the Univisionarios Award by her community in 2022 and received the Diversity Award and Best Business recognition from Seminole County, FL, in 2023. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. María Victoria Díaz is a respected researcher and developer of technology aimed at facilitating access to educational media, arts, and culture for all.
